Grani Gallantmon is a digimon knight. And every knight must have a steed... The character "Grani" was conceived of in this fashion. Mr. Kitagawa of WiZ came up with the idea of a half-digimon created by humans in order to aid the heroes. I had decided early on that Yamaki and the members of Hypnos would be in a position to support Takato, Gallantmon, and their friends. I had not yet decided how exactly they would support the heroes, and was very grateful for Mr. Kitagawa's suggestion. As it would be a little sudden if Grani just appeared out of the blue, I had to create a little drama so that Grani could develop as a character. Thus, I decided that Grani would be based on the "Ark" that the Wild Bunch had developed in the 80s. The Ark that appears to rescue the tamers in the Digital World cannot speak. However, it listens to Guilmon's desperate cries... Thus, the Ark, which only possesses the core programming of a digimon begins to develop and create an identity of its own. Grani was played by Mr. Masami Kikuchi, who also played Dolphin (Professor Rob. McCoy). He used a very different type of performance for Grani.
